Professor 桑德拉Bengochea is a current addition to the San José State University Department of Voice. 女高音, Professor Bengochea has earned rave reviews for her spirited interpretations of the lyric coloratura repertoire. Described as having a "natural vivacity and charisma that resulted in a performance that was a joy from the first note to the last" (Opera News), she has performed over thirty operatic roles, ranging from the comic 一个s of 苏珊娜在 The Marriage of FigaroNorina在 唐帕斯夸里，罗西娜 Il Barbiere di Siviglia，阿迪娜也进来了 The Elixir of Love to the dramatic 一个s of Gilda in Rigoletto咪咪 《波希米亚玛格丽特在 《浮士德》蕾拉进来了 采珠人 and the title role in 侬 with companies such as Bangkok Opera, Opera San José, Great Falls Opera, Intermountain Opera, Opera Idaho.
Recent engagements for Professor Bengochea include directing Opera San José's productions of 托斯卡, 卡门, La Cenerentola and performing the role of Ilia in the company premiere of Mozart's Idomeneo, where she was praised by The Opera Critic: "Ilia's lilting lines are a perfect match for Bengochea. She sings with a relaxed optimism 和伊莱娅相符's resilient demeanor."
Equally comfortable on the concert and recital stage, Professor Bengochea has performed the soprano solos in Orff's 《布兰诗歌Burana, Schubert's Mass in G,贝多芬's 第九交响曲, Ralph Vaughan Williams' 诺比斯夫人和莫扎特's 安魂曲 with orchestras such as The Winchester 管弦乐队, The Santa Clara Chorale, The San José Chamber 管弦乐队, The Sacramento Chorale Society and The Midsummer 莫扎特音乐节. She has also sung operatic and musical theatre excerpts by composers ranging from Mozart to Puccini to Lloyd Weber with companies such as The California Philharmonic, Symphony 硅谷, The Peninsula Symphony, The San José Symphony, the Midsummer 莫扎特音乐节. She also performed with The Midsummer Mozart orchestra at Villa Montalvo, where she appeared as a last-minute replacement for Frederica Von Stade.
Professor Bengochea enjoys an active career as a music professor, stage director, vocal performer, mother of two boys.
